Deep River

Heart of the Connecticut River Valley

The Town of Deep River was formerly named “Saybrook” until 1947.  Deep River is a great small town full of pride and a strong sense of community located on the banks of the Connecticut River.  Once considered the Queen of the Valley, Deep River has a long heritage related to building pianos and the ivory trade for piano keys.  Deep River is considered one of the best-kept secrets along the CT River. The Main Street was recently renovated with accessible brick walkways and inviting streetlights. The vibrant Main Street includes shops and eateries as well as practical amenities including a full service grocery store, laundry and convenience stores. Every year on the third Saturday in July, Deep River hosts the Deep River Ancient Muster, the largest one-day gathering of fife and drum corps in the world.
